Bean-to-Cup vs. Capsules: Why We Skip the Pods
We made a deliberate choice not to offer capsule (pod) machines, for two reasons.
The first is environmental. In 2018, an estimated 59 billion coffee capsules were produced worldwide — and roughly 95% of them, about 56 billion, ended up in a landfill (Halo Coffee, 2018 industry research). Most pods are plastic-and-aluminum hybrids that take decades to break down, and in practice very few actually get recycled. Multiply that across a single office running through hundreds of pods a month, and the waste adds up fast — quietly, cup by cup, long after anyone's finished drinking.
The second is quality. Capsule machines push hot water through a pre-portioned, pre-ground dose that's been sitting sealed for months. Our bean-to-cup machines grind specialty-grade whole beans fresh for every single cup — no pre-packaged industrial process, no plastic or aluminum to throw away, just real coffee brewed to order. Our beans come through our parent brand, Luisa Coffee, sourced directly from independent farmers.
